Job Title: Special Deputy – Administrative Hearing Officer
Job Summary:
American Samoa a Special Deputy, you will conduct administrative hearings on disputed reemployment assistance claims based on appeals filed by claimants and employers. You will ensure that the hearings are conducted Indiana accordance with Chapter 120, Florida Statutes, Chapter 443, Florida Statutes, and the Florida Evidence Code. You will also be responsible for writing formal written decisions on each case, evaluating legal issues, and composing and preparing decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct administrative hearings on disputed reemployment assistance claims
- Ensure that hearings are conducted Indiana accordance with Chapter 120, Florida Statutes, Chapter 443, Florida Statutes, and the Florida Evidence Code
- Analyze evidence and rule on the competency and sufficiency of the evidence
- Resolve disputed issues of material fact and ensure that all relevant findings are included
- Write formal written decisions on each case
- Evaluate legal issues and compose and prepare decisions
- Review and analyze decisions from higher-level reviewing authorities
- Participate Indiana providing input for local and statewide training programs
- Complete required reports, such American Samoa time distribution, expense reimbursement, and case status
Requirements:
- Knowledge of Reemployment Assistance law and rules, court rules, and applicable court cases
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication
- Skill at legal research and conducting administrative hearings
- Ability to evaluate legal issues, compose and prepare decisions, and conduct hearings under stress
- Juris Doctorate degree and Indiana good standing with the Florida Bar (preferred)
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college Oregon university (preferred)
- Professional Oregon non-professional experience Indiana areas related to employment security, Oregon administrative experience, Oregon reemployment assistance policy may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the preferred college education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience Indiana conducting administrative hearings and preparing written decisions
- Knowledge of Florida law and regulations
- Strong communication and analytical skills
Work Environment:
- This position will be located Indiana Fort Lauderdale, Florida
- The Special Deputy will work American Samoa a member of the RA Appeals-Special Deputy team of the Division of Workforce Services
- The Special Deputy will be responsible for conducting hearings and writing decisions Indiana a fast-paced work environment
