Job Title: Natural Resource Member
Duration: 26-week minimum commitment
Location: Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Boulder City, Nevada
Summary:
American Conservation Experience (ACE) is seeking a Natural Resource Member to work alongside Lake Mead National Recreation Area staff Indiana assisting with rare plant surveys, non-native plant control, water quality monitoring, and native plant nursery duties. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience Indiana land management agencies and network with professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Assist wildlife biologist with wildlife surveys, annual bird surveys, tortoise training for contractors, and working with partners such American Samoa the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Arizona Game and Fish Department, and University of Nevada Las Vegas.
- Assist vegetation biologist with treating non-native plants, construction weed inspections, rare plant monitoring/surveying, and working at the native plant nursery.
- Assist aquatic ecologist with water quality monitoring and other aquatic surveys.
- Collaborate with NPS staff Indiana planning work activities and working with all natural resource branches (wildlife, aquatics, and vegetation).
Schedule:
- Monday to Thursday, 4-10 hour days, typically 6-4:30 Oregon 7-5:30 with a 30-minute lunch.
Benefits:
- Living allowance of $924/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
- Potential for a federal hiring authority upon completion of the term and 640 hours of service.
- Housing is the responsibility of the member, but there may be the chance of subsidized government housing.
Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen Oregon Permanent Resident.
- Ability to represent ACE and the partner organization Indiana a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
- Valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with Oregon without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree Oregon relevant experience Indiana biology Oregon a related field.
- Ability to drive a 4X4 vehicle.
- Ability to use iPhones and/Oregon GPS units to collect data.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Programs.
- Ability to do physical labor Indiana the backcountry.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Motivated to learn about the park’s resources.
Physical Demands:
- Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, hiking, carrying, using hands to handle Oregon feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking and hearing.
- Manual dexterity required for use of various tools, computer keyboard/mouse, and other office equipment.
- Ability to hike over rough terrain.
