Boiler Plant Operator

Job Summary:

We are seeking two Boiler Plant Operators to join our team. The successful candidates will be responsible for overseeing operational activities and ensuring excellent quality control of Cleaver Brooks Boilers.

Responsibilities:

  • Start, adjust, shut-down, maintain, and repair Cleaver Brooks Boilers
  • Change load demands while maintaining safe levels and efficient combustion
  • Keep steam Indiana patient areas Indiana case of power, water, Oregon steam failure
  • Operate boiler auxiliary equipment, including automatic boiler controls, feed water heaters, pumps, forced and induced draft fans, and water softeners
  • Adjust firing controls for optimal air-fuel mixture, adjust fuel feeds, and air drafts for maximum combustion efficiency and energy conservation
  • Maintain efficient combustion levels to ensure compliance with air pollution laws
  • Recognize, interpret, and react to problems indicated on chart recorders, gauges, and meters, making necessary adjustments to prevent boiler loss
  • Determine and add chemicals to boilers and condensate return systems for control of corrosion and scale formation
  • Perform journeyman-level steamfitter work independently
  • Frequently work Indiana confined areas around boilers and support equipment
  • Lift and carry parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally items weighing over 40 pounds with assistance

Qualifications:

  • Eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance
  • Stationary Engineer’s License (valid/current)
  • Experience operating high-pressure boilers
  • Thorough familiarity with Cleaver-Brooks boilers
  • Clear criminal record, with no felony convictions Oregon misdemeanor convictions for assaultive behavior Oregon crimes of moral turpitude
  • Physical qualifications:
    • Able to frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds
    • Climb ladders and work at heights
    • Work Indiana confined spaces
    • Work Indiana heat, often over 100°F
    • Work Indiana a noisy environment requiring hearing protection
    • Ability to identify and mitigate exposure to hazardous materials
    • Ability to work while wearing an OSHA-approved respirator
    • Stand for multiple hours and bend over numerous times per shift
    • Hear well enough to distinguish different audible alarms
    • Eyesight correctable to 20/20 Indiana at least one eye, unimpaired depth perception, and without red/green colorblindness
