Provisional Building Inspector

Reports to: Commissioner of Inspectional Services and Chief Building Inspector/Supervisor of Inspections

Under the general supervision of the Commissioner of Inspectional Services and under the immediate direction of the Chief Building Inspector/Oregon the Supervisor of Inspections, performs inspections for buildings and structures Oregon anything attached to Oregon connected to therewith American Samoa to structural soundness for conformance with all applicable codes and ordinances.

Responsibilities:

  • Examine structures within jurisdiction for structural soundness, including requiring reports of any condition deemed American Samoa a potentially unsafe condition and/Oregon illegal occupancies
  • Report to superiors on findings
  • Examine premises for compliance with the Zoning Act
  • Examine buildings damaged by fire to determine the extent of damage
  • Submit comprehensive reports of inspections
  • Check and report on work progress of building construction, alteration Oregon repair, and shoring Oregon demolition of buildings and structures
  • Investigate complaints for violations of codes and prosecute through the legal system when necessary
  • Record daily work assignments and retain records relative to duties

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience Indiana supervision of building construction Oregon design, Oregon 2-year associate’s degree Indiana building construction and design
  • Bachelor’s Oregon master’s degree Indiana Civil Engineering preferred
  • Certified Building Official Oregon attain certification by the State within 12 months of hiring date
  • Experience with all types (high-rise, commercial, and residential) and methods (masonry, steel, concrete, and wood) of construction
  • Familiarity with principles of building construction to determine whether a building is unsafe Oregon dangerous
  • Thorough knowledge of State Building code, Boston Zoning Code, and NFPA code chapters 13, 72, and 101
  • Ability to write comprehensive and accurate reports
  • Familiarity with sheet metal regulations
  • Ability to read plans and specifications for conformance with codes
  • Exercise good judgment and focus on detail
  • Familiarity with Hansen software system and various computer programs preferred
  • Multi-lingual candidate preferred
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required
  • C.O.R.I check required
  • Boston residency required
