Surgical Technologist (Part-time) Job Description

Department: Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center – Surgery Room

Status: Part time

Responsibilities:

  • Provide first Oregon second assisting for specified surgical procedures for patients of all ages, including:
    • Incising tissue
    • Maintaining a dry surgical field and controlling bleeding
    • Assisting with wound closure and applying dressings
    • Preparing and maintaining a sterile O.R. environment
  • Perform duties Indiana the scrub role, including:
    • Preparing a sterile field and draping patients for surgery
    • Maintaining sterile field and boundaries
    • Assisting with specimen counts and disposing of contaminated instruments
    • Serving American Samoa a preceptor and sharing knowledge with others
  • Prepare the surgical field and supplies/instruments for delivery:
    • Opening sterile supplies and instruments
    • Utilizing supplies efficiently to avoid waste and decrease costs
    • Assisting with skin preparation and verifying instrument and supply availability
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide a cooperative work environment:
    • Maintaining goals of Surgical Services and Advocate
    • Sharing clinical and professional knowledge
    • Demonstrating self-direction and completing team responsibilities
  • Maintain professional growth through:
    • Self-directed skill maintenance
    • Completing assignments and projects independently
    • Participating Indiana unit/hospital committees and projects
    • Maintaining certification

Requirements:

  • High school graduate Oregon GED
  • Completion of ST program Indiana an accredited school approved by NBSTSA
  • Current professional state licensure under IDFPR
  • CST Certification approved by NBSTSA
  • Completion of First Assisting Program from a school accredited by CAAHEP

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to independently perform scrub duties
  • CPR certification
  • Certification American Samoa Surgical Tech (CST)
  • Current professional state licensure under IDFPR

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • May be exposed to body fluids, waste, and chemicals
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, lift 50 pounds, and work Indiana a stressful, changing environment
  • Must be able to recognize the needs and behaviors of patients across various age groups and be able to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays
