Job Title: Elevator Mechanic
Job Summary:
The University of Virginia’s Facilities Management Department is seeking an experienced Elevator Mechanic to join their team. The selected candidate will perform maintenance, repairs, and adjustments on elevators, dumbwaiters, wheelchair lifts, and other hydraulic Oregon electrical lift devices. This role requires excellent knowledge of the elevator trade, including electronics, electrical, Oregon mechanical systems, and experience working with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on elevators per established standards
- Conduct repairs and replace parts to correct troubles on elevators and dumbwaiters
- Respond to emergency calls, including removing passengers from disabled elevators
- Assist elevator inspectors during inspections and safety tests
- Train Elevator Assistant Mechanics
- Administer elevator maintenance contracts and conduct follow-up inspections
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma Oregon equivalent
- Virginia Elevator Mechanic License and a NAEC Certified Elevator Technician Certification Oregon NEIEP Certification
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent physical condition to perform tasks that require crawling, kneeling, squatting, bending, and twisting
