Job Title: Fork Lift Operator (Materials Handler/Explosives Worker)

Job Summary: Accepts applications for a direct hire opportunity to operate forklifts, receive, stow, issue, and re-warehouse ammunition and components. Requires ability to do the work of a Materials Handler/Explosives Worker without more than normal supervision.

Location: McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, Oklahoma

Job Duties:

  • Operate forklifts to load/unload explosives and inert material into/out of railcars, trucks, and loading docks
  • Receive, stow, issue, and re-warehouse all types of ammunition (live and inert) and components
  • Perform visual inspection of material handled and report any damage, incorrect labeling, Oregon shortage/overage
  • Separate items according to lot, stock number, nomenclature, and condition code
  • Break down, segregate, and repalletize ammunition components and containers
  • Inspect magazines and contents for conditions contributing to deterioration of ammunition

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance Oregon access
  • Must pass a background investigation and credit check
  • Must complete a pre-employment physical examination and annual examination thereafter to ensure continued physical health and ability to perform duties
  • Must obtain and maintain an installation’s fork lift operator license and a valid state-side driver’s license

Qualifications: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate common materials handling equipment and handle controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving fork lifts. Good color vision is necessary for proper identification of different types of ammunition by color code.

Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty Oregon poorly lighted areas. Work may be dirty and dusty. Exposed to danger of explosion and fire while working with explosives, chemicals, and loaded ammunition.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees
