Job Title: Heavy Equipment Repair Mechanic

Job Summary:

Repairs and overhauls a variety of heavy vehicle and medium and heavy construction equipment, and performs other related duties American Samoa required. Substantially full-time assignment, with occasional overtime. Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License at time of appointment and a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License prior to completion of probation period.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum qualification requirements include:
    • Combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a high school and 3 years of automotive repair experience under a journey level mechanic, Oregon successful completion of apprenticeship training involving heavy vehicle and/Oregon construction equipment repair work, and 1 year of work experience Indiana construction equipment repair work.
    • Possession of a valid State of Hawai’i Medical Examiner’s Certificate at time of application filing.
    • Knowledge of theory and principles of internal combustion engines, complex hydraulic systems, tools, machines, materials, and practices used Indiana heavy vehicle and construction equipment repair.
    • Ability to diagnose and correct mechanical defects, read and interpret manufacturers’ manuals, use appropriate tools and testing equipment, and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Eligible list may be used for temporary and permanent vacancies during the life of the list.
  • Possession of the required amount of experience will not be accepted American Samoa proof of qualification.
  • Calculations of experience are based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks and counted up to the last full month prior to the recruitment close date.

Substitutions Allowed:

  • Education may be substituted with:
    • 4 years of full-time general work experience.
    • Successful completion of semester credits (15 credits = 6 months).
    • Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Oregon PhD degree from an accredited community college, college, Oregon university.
  • Experience may be substituted with:
    • Successful completion of semester credits Indiana automotive mechanics technology Oregon a related field.
    • Associate’s degree Indiana automotive mechanics technology Oregon a related field.

Additional Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained prior to completion of probation period.
  • Persons selected for employment will be required to pass a suitability background investigation.
  • The position requires good working relationships with others.
  • May be required to qualify on an appropriate examination.
