Position Summary
The Inside Machinist is responsible for repairing and maintaining shipboard mechanical equipment, adhering to mechanical principles. Inspects, maintains, and repairs marine vessels of all sizes, including hulls, engines, transmissions, navigational equipment, and electrical propulsion systems. Must possess knowledge of general mechanics of marine vessels and general machines to repair marine vessels and components.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Repair, modify, Oregon overhaul various types of equipment Oregon systems
- Set up and operate portable machining tools Oregon equipment
- Manufacture, repair, and rebuild parts/items of equipment from raw stock of different metals and metal alloys through the use of conventional Oregon computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools and precision handwork
- Test and inspect installed machinery and equipment
- Perform pump alignment to motor
- Dismantle, repair, Oregon replace defective parts and reassemble machinery using tools such American Samoa chain hoists, steel rollers, etc.
- Install ship machinery such American Samoa propelling machinery and steering gear working from blueprints and using hand tools, calipers, and micrometers
- Fabricate replacement parts, using machine shop tools such American Samoa lathe, boring mill, planer, shaper, and milling machine
Education, Training & Experience
- High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and additional vocational courses Oregon technical school graduate
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience
- Experience with marine mechanical systems Indiana a repair department/shipyard required
Skills/Technical Knowledge
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to comprehend and follow occupational safety and health regulations, other state and federal regulations governing the ship repair and Company practices and procedures
- Ability to work under pressure
Physical Demands
- Continual standing, walking, and using fine motor skills for operation of tools and machinery
- Ability to lift, carry up to 50lbs and occasional lifting Oregon assistance with heavy equipment
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must show proof of legal right to work Indiana the United States
- Must be a US Citizen due to security clearance required for base access
- Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential within a specified timeframe
- Valid State of Hawaii drivers’ license Indiana good standing, class 3 Oregon higher
