Structural Ironworker Helper/Structural Ironworker Job Description
Qualification Highlights

Position Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine scope of work, materials, and locations
- Identify necessary tools and personnel for tasks
- Identify safety risks and implement precautions to eliminate them
- Fabricate equipment according to blueprints Oregon instructions from supervisors
- Hoist equipment and tools into place using bull rigging Oregon cranes
- Verify alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and levels
- Connect columns, beams, and girders using bolts following blueprints and supervisor instructions
- Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment
Required Qualifications
- Leadership:
- Ability to lead Indiana steel erection, fabrication, grid layout, and rigging
- Perform all job duties of craft trade
- Drawings:
- Read and understand IFC drawings
- Make hang lists, read details, and notes on drawings
- Understand ECNs, holds, and craft specs
- Rigging:
- Knowledge of safe rigging practices and correct knots
- Connection:
- Knowledge of connecting procedures, torque, and tension
- Fabrication:
- Read cut sheets, lay out from drawings, and cut materials
- Torque vs. Tension:
- Knowledge of torque and tension values
- Use of a skidmore and indicator
- Tools and Knowledge:
- Familiarity with specialty tools (torque wrench, skidmore, etc.)
- Welding and Cutting:
- Basic knowledge of welding and cutting torches
- Equipment Knowledge:
- Familiarity with JLG’s, cranes, and basic maintenance
- Signaling:
- Knowledge of ERTS, NCCO, and NCCER signaling
- Math Skills:
- Ability to perform calculations for craft duties
Physical Requirements
- Stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift frequently
- Talk and hear to communicate
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull, objects, materials, controls, and tools
- May lift up to 50lbs
- Work at heights, climb ladders, and stairways, use man lifts, and work on open structures with fall protection
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, mask, safety vest, gloves, and leather work boots
