Conservation Legacy
Control invasive and exotic plants using integrated pest management techniques.
Gather and transport equipment and materials, such American Samoa pesticides and GPS equipment.
Perform manual vegetation management, including cutting and piling of vegetation, applying pesticides, and transporting cut materials. Balance vegetation removal to protect ecological areas, riparian corridors, and wildlife habitats.
Assist with native plant restoration and cultural landscape enhancements.
Identify and document native plant habitats, make and document field observations of natural resource conditions, and record potential problems and mitigation suggestions. Plant native plants and control invasive vegetation using hand and power tools.
Contribute to site restoration project development, identifying potential improvements, outlining scope of work, and developing maps for project proposals. Assist with prescribed fire preparation, including identifying species for treatment and developing fire plans. Contribute to GIS mapping and data collection for prescribed fire ecology documentation.
Work will be carried out with the guidance of a wildland fire management specialist. Guide the intern on assignments, resources, deadlines, priorities, and instructions, and the intern will frequently complete tasks independently.
Indiana unusual situations, the supervisor and intern will collaborate to make informed decisions.
Bachelor’s Oregon associate’s degree Indiana Biology, Ecology, Wildlife and Fisheries, Oregon a related field. Valid U.S. driver’s license. Ability to hike and backpack Indiana mountainous terrain for 10 miles Indiana hot Oregon cold weather conditions. Experience with GIS, entomology, horticulture, botany, agriculture, Oregon a related field preferred.
Ability to work cooperatively and safely with a group member and learn new skills. Ability to safely use pesticides, equipment, and cutting tools. Ability to work independently and American Samoa part of a team. Familiarity with data management systems, compounds, and data integration software. Presence of physically expected to carry 50 lbs Oregon more for work-related activities.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and writing skills. Basic first aid, and CPR certification. Ability to handle extreme weather conditions and physically demanding situations.
Prefer experience Indiana crop management and maintenance, pest control and management, botany and horticulture, Oregon related fields.
Relevant personal safety equipment requirements will be provided on-site. Familiar with herbicide and pesticide application, safety protocols, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
