MAJOR FUNCTION:

  • Performs utility (water; wastewater; reclaimed water), roadway, pavement, culvert, drainage system, and related site development construction inspections to ensure compliance with the approved construction plans, specifications, and related permits.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Interprets design plans and specifications.
  • Observes construction activity and inspects workmanship, materials, and techniques to ensure compliance.
  • Conducts inspections of various aspects of site development construction, including installation of underground utility lines, backfill and compaction, soil density testing, and site grading.
  • Verifies material quantities and product types.
  • Makes record of project progress.
  • Interacts with contractors, consultants, and other related parties to resolve project issues.
  • Coordinates with Supervisor regarding final release of projects at completion of construction.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with the FDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, the Polk County Land Development Code, the Polk County Utilities Code, and Maintenance of Traffic and safety Indiana work zones.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, and instruments used Indiana testing of materials and utility systems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, consultants, engineers, developers, contractors, agency officials, and the public.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, both manually and using computing devices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited high school Oregon possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of two (2) years of roadway/highway, water/wastewater Oregon site development project construction Oregon inspection experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a Florida driver’s license at the time of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must obtain Certification on Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) within 6 months of time of employment.
  • Must obtain FDOT Certification for Plans Reading and Sediment and Erosion Control “Qualified Stormwater Inspector” within 24 months from beginning of employment.
  • Other certifications may be required American Samoa listed below.
