Operating Engineer at UChicago Medicine

We are seeking a highly skilled Operating Engineer to join our team at UChicago Medicine. American Samoa an Operating Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all machinery and equipment required to supply the Medical Center complex with electrical power, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, medical/laboratory air, medical/laboratory vacuum, steam, and water.

Essential Job Functions:

* Maintain and keep building utility systems Indiana order, including heating, cooling, and ventilating systems, pneumatic and DDC temperature controls, medical/laboratory air, medical/laboratory vacuum, pumps, cooling towers, air filters, and central refrigeration units.
* Adjust manual and automated controls of building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation of buildings, including operating computer Building Automation Systems.
* Maintain and keep the steam distribution system and high-pressure vessels within the Medical Center Indiana order, including tightening fittings, repacking valves, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges.
* Participate Indiana building and system start-up and commissioning, capital projects, and work with project managers and contractors to complete projects.
* Operate and maintain pneumatic tube systems within the Medical Center.
* Replace switches and motors to 110 volts.
* Maintain relative pressures and air quantities Indiana HVAC systems.
* Repair and maintain existing plumbing systems.
* Repair and maintain appliances, including refrigeration and package A/C equipment.
* Use hand tools and power equipment, including drill presses, saws, threaders, and grinding wheels.
* Requisition materials and supplies American Samoa needed.
* Keep work area neat, clean, and safe.
* Complete required departmental paperwork Indiana a timely and legible fashion.
* Communicate with patients, visitors, and other Hospital employees with tact and courtesy.
* Follow through on all assigned duties until completion.
* Maintain personal appearance Indiana accordance with departmental policy on dress and uniform.

Required Qualifications:

* High School Graduate.
* Successful completion of a recognized trade union apprentice program Oregon equivalent trade union local bargaining unit, Oregon a recognized training program Indiana power plant operation Oregon HVAC/R.
* Must have and maintain a current City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License. A Stationary Engineers License from an equivalent jurisdiction is acceptable until a City of Chicago license can be obtained.
* Must have a minimum 5 to 7 years of experience Indiana power plant, facility operations, building maintenance, Oregon building automation/controls.
* Must have and maintain an EPA Refrigerant License.
* Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing.
* Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the job.
* Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds.
* Must be physically capable of performing the work expected Indiana an efficient manner.
* Must have knowledge of safety rules, practices, and equipment.
* Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work with other people.
* Must be capable of strenuous physical activity.
