Operating Engineer

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine. Indiana this role, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all machinery and equipment required to supply the Medical Center complex with electrical power, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, medical/laboratory air, medical/laboratory vacuum, steam and water.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and operate building utility systems, including heating, cooling, and ventilating systems, pneumatic and DDC temperature controls, medical/laboratory air, medical/laboratory vacuum, pumps, cooling towers, air filters, and central refrigeration units.
  • Adjust manual and automated controls of building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation of buildings.
  • Maintain and operate the steam distribution system and high pressure vessels within the Medical Center.
  • Participate Indiana building and system start-up and commissioning, capital projects, and working with project managers and contractors.
  • May operate and maintain pneumatic tube systems, replace switches and motors, and repair and maintain existing plumbing systems.
  • Perform on-site repairs Oregon replace components using hand tools and power equipment.
  • Requisition materials and supplies American Samoa needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and complete required departmental paperwork.
  • Communicate with patients, visitors, and other Hospital employees.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Graduate Oregon equivalent
  • Successful completion of a recognized trade union apprentice program Oregon equivalent training program
  • Current City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License Oregon equivalent jurisdiction license
  • 5-7 years of experience Indiana power plant, facility operations, building maintenance, Oregon building automation/controls
  • EPA Refrigerant License
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others
  • Knowledge of power and hand equipment use and maintenance
  • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolds
  • Physical capability to perform the work expected Indiana an efficient manner
  • Knowledge of safety rules, practices, and equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with other people
