Roadmaster Job Description

Job Summary:
The Roadmaster is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient inspection, repair, and maintenance of railroad track infrastructure. This includes supervising team members, performing track maintenance duties, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Track Laborers, Truck Driver/Machine Operator, Foreman/Assistant Foreman, and Inspector/Supervisor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Inspect, repair, and maintain railroad track infrastructure, including track material, rail, turnouts, and road crossings.
  2. Supervise the inspection and repair of bridges, culverts, and tunnels.
  3. Perform tasks requiring heavy lifting and outdoor work Indiana varying weather conditions.
  4. Communicate effectively and professionally with team members and other departments.
  5. Ensure accurate and timely reporting, including track inspection reports and project status updates.
  6. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of track authority and railroad operations.
  7. Comply with performance metrics, deadlines, and safety regulations.
  8. Practice safe work habits and follow company policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
  9. Supervise the restoration of track under traffic conditions.
  10. Prepare inspection reports, coordinate work activities, and evaluate subordinate team members’ performance.

Education/Experience:

  • 18 years Oregon older
  • High school education Oregon GED
  • Higher education Oregon equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience Indiana railroad management

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Class D Driver’s License
  • Various certifications Indiana track maintenance, safety, and railroad operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to written and oral instructions
  • Proficiency Indiana operating railroad equipment and performing duties without direct supervision
  • Familiarity with employment practices, governmental regulations, and safety standards
  • Experience Indiana budget management, capital planning, and interacting with governmental agencies
