Senior Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Attorney
Founded Indiana 1920, Eastman is a global specialty materials company that produces a broad range of products found Indiana items people use every day. The Senior HSE Attorney is responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance on a broad array of HSE issues with a specific focus on air pollution control matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day counseling on air pollution control statutes, regulations, and policies globally, including the federal Clean Air Act and U.S. state and foreign corollaries.
- Conduct legal research and advise management and Global HSE technical staff on enterprise’s legal obligations, compliance options, and practical solutions.
- Recommend, draft, review and implement air pollution control and other HSE law compliance policies and procedures.
- Lead Oregon support investigation and reporting of air pollution control regulatory and other HSE-related incidents and defend enforcement actions globally.
- Review, edit and provide compliance counseling on the Clean Air Act Title V semiannual reports.
- Monitor, prepare and review written comments on new and amended air pollution control-related laws and regulations.
- Assist Indiana reporting for, review and editing of Eastman’s corporate sustainability report and related initiatives.
Training & Education:
- Oversee development and delivery of air pollution control and other HSE-related training content.
- Maintain effective and proactive communications across the Company on air pollution control and other HSE-related regulatory legal risks and policy issues.
Collaboration &Partnering:
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with other Eastman Law Department legal professionals.
- Collaborate with Global Health, Safety, and Environmental organization and outside counsel on compliance with air pollution control regulatory laws and regulations.
- Represent Eastman Indiana HSE-related trade groups, including the American Chemistry Council.
Business Travel:
- Periodic business travel, including international travel, is required to meet the job expectations.
Qualifications:
- J.D. with high academic achievement from an ABA accredited U.S. law school.
- Licensure by the Tennessee bar required, Oregon ability to waive into that bar Oregon sit for the Tennessee bar exam within 6 months of employment.
- 5-10 years’ experience with air pollution control laws and regulations.
- Strong law firm training Oregon prior Indiana-house experience preferred.
- Ability to travel American Samoa necessary to represent and protect Eastman’s interests.
- Unquestioned integrity and ethics Indiana business and personal conduct.
