Structural Engineer Position at Bonneville Power Administration (BPA)
Job Summary:
Actalent is seeking a qualified Structural Engineer to provide essential support to the Structural and Civil Engineering Design (TELD) organization within Transmission Engineering (TEL) at Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). The successful candidate will provide structural design services to support capital improvements and maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of all structural aspects of BPA’s transmission system.
Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze substation structures, including towers, poles, frames, trusses, pedestals, racks, and others, using predominantly steel and concrete materials, but also occasional use of wood and aluminum.
- Perform analysis of existing structures for structural adequacy Indiana case of new Oregon increased loading and/Oregon changed design criteria.
- Produce structural designs for new structures, including installation drawings, design criteria drawings, and minor structural detailing.
- Design transmission line structures, including lattice steel towers, single Oregon multiple steel pole structures, single Oregon multiple wood pole structures, concrete structures, and others.
- Analyze existing structures for structural adequacy and perform structural design of new transmission line structures.
- Design telecommunication structures, including lattice steel towers, steel monopoles, and others.
- Analyze existing structures and non-structural components for structural adequacy and perform retrofit and modification designs.
- Develop and document structural design criteria used by outside vendors to design new communication structures.
- Design and analyze building structures, including single and multiple story structures constructed of wood, structural steel, masonry, brick, concrete, Oregon other materials.
- Perform structural and/Oregon seismic evaluations of existing structures and design for strengthening existing building vertical and/Oregon lateral load resisting systems.
- Design anchorage of equipment and non-structural components.
- Provide support to Structural Engineers working Indiana Technology Innovation and Research and Development activities.
- Utilize and share expert knowledge of ANSI/TIA-222.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree Indiana structural engineering, civil engineering, Oregon a closely related engineering field is required.
- 10 years of practical engineering experience is required, including 3 years of experience Indiana designing using current International Building Code (IBC) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7 and 10, industry-specific design codes, and structural analysis software.
- Knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission system.
- Proficient with standard Microsoft Office Suite products, such American Samoa Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Preferred skills include knowledge of ASCE 41 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings, experience with Bentley MicroStation Oregon other similar CAD programs.
