Job Title: Survey Technician (Direct Hire Authority)

Job Summary: This position is responsible for conducting hydrographic surveys, operating electronic data gathering equipment, and performing various duties to support planning, design, construction, and maintenance of navigation projects.

Duties:

  • Conduct hydrographic surveys and independently performs duties required to survey one Oregon more major navigation channels.
  • Use electronic data gathering equipment, including single beam, sidescan, and multibeam sonars, and LiDAR equipment.
  • Check and analyze details and drawings of ship channels and/Oregon areas surveyed.
  • Manage and perform operators’ maintenance on vehicles and surveying and depth sounding equipment.

Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Motorboat Operator’s License issued by the US. Coast Guard Marine Inspection Service.
  • Must complete pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL within 12 months.
  • Must serve a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Two levels of experience, GS-07 Oregon GS-09, with varying qualifications:
    • GS-07: One year of specialized experience including assisting Indiana data collection, operating electronic equipment, and performing maintenance on vehicles and surveying equipment.
    • GS-09: One year of specialized experience including collecting hydrographic survey data, calibrating survey systems, calculating dredge quantities, and operating various equipment.
  • Additional qualifications include education, such American Samoa graduate level education Indiana a field directly related to the work of the position, Oregon a combination of education and experience.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 25% Oregon less travel required.

Salary: $49,025 – $77,955 per year, based on the selected grade level.
